Land Angels...meet one here! Rob and Bella.

I remember the first time I heard this phrase of "land angel " I was looking after a patient named Ken, he was my first terminal patient. You never ever forget that first goodbye to someone whom you cared for- for months. I knew his time was nearing as he slept a lot through his brain cancer, the last few days of his life he was alert and could carry on a conversation. That was when I heard "Samm, you are a land angel- do you know what that is?". Of course I had not, but the term was sweet, he went on to explain..." A land angel is someone who helps someone to say goodbye to those he loves, it is the most incredible gift you can give someone."

Ken left us 3 days later. I have never been afraid of death. I have had to say goodbye to so many patients, husband(s), children, and dear friends. Ohhhh and 4 pets in my lifetime. I am very familiar with the sadness of losing someone, but I am also very grateful for the lessons they all have left in my mind and heart. They all taught me to value every moment, to cherish all the little things, the smells, the cuddles, the memories...

A few months ago, I came across Rob and Bella...A very incredible man and his dog. Bella is a little over 10 years old, last year she was diagnosed with bone cancer and had to have a leg amputated, soon after her cancer spread to her lungs. Rob was well aware Bella would not have much time left, so he has taken this past year and taken Bella on a bucket list of an adventure... I have been so touched by this man, I wrote him a note, as many thousands must have too. He is all about hope and reminder there is still some pretty amazing souls in our world... He is a LAND ANGEL!

"When so much sadness is evident in our world...there you walk in with Bella and share with us there is much more : there is hope, and love and a man with a heart that is full of compassion. And there is Bella who has chosen you to fill her life with adventure. I know of this deep love, I too feel it everyday with my 4 legged friends...their souls can wipe away any doubt that we can be connected on such a deep level that only those who open their minds to the possibilities will be blessed with this eternal LOVE. So you sweet man and your Bella...may you both spread the lessons that there is much more to embrace.. God Bless you both....and he has .. In warmth and tenderness. Mdm Samm"

Sometimes we just need a gentle reminder that there is so much more to look forward
to, so much more to experience, so much to embrace ....

LOOK for those Land Angels. I have known quite a few...

blessings...

x

P.s Rob Kugler is his name....again

  1. You're not only a land angel... in addition to helping say goodbye, you help so many say hello to new hobbies, thoughts, and hope of a better world. I could add a great deal of credentials to your title, but land angel is most fitting for you and encompasses so much more than loss my sweet friend.xx

  4. Awww Samm, what a touching story and I am so happy you shared it with us. There are still many beautiful people in this world of ours, although we tend to hear more about all the hateful, murderous people than those like Rob. The boys are getting so big and more beautiful as well. They sure are fortunate to have you and David as their parents, a loving and caring couple who will care for and love them with all their hearts. Hugs

    1. Hi sweet Sylvia....yes which is why sometimes a friendly reminder there is so much to celebrate and embrace...Both our riot boys are getting these manes that are getting very thick. Subtle differences as they keep growing for another 2 years...Sumo is still much lighter than Monchat...Monchat is so solid....like a wrestler...Sumo a dancer lol...their personalities reflect that too ....hugs x
