Calling Spring over here....LOOK! PIE PERSONALITY and more...

I don't think the child in me will ever find another home...
SHE is so happy in ME...We both love GINGHAM and gingham like things...
Take this Windmill, and it is the size of a beachball, I found it today
at Hobby Lobby on the American side...I became 7 years old all over again.
blowing it, whipping it in the air, playing with the custom guy when I returned home..
Even he was smiling.....

I could not wait to get home and put it in one of my planters, so the Riot boys
will have a lovely view of it from the window bench...
OUR gardens are coming to life...summer is sneaking in....

They are ready to be planted this weekend....we had frost this am, so I will be making
another trip to the nursery for a few more gems...

HOWEVER...My riot boys like Monchat above was not to thrilled about my new windmill...
I think he is more upset that he cannot join me for a piece of lemon meringue pie...

I really try to be very understanding of my riot boys these days as for the next couple months
they are TEENAGERS....they lazy around except when it comes to play time and sleep time...

They have been resting a lot...Good news though, finally broke them both going on
our counters..Turns out they are not fans of squirt bottles.... I hate to scare them
but after 2 squirts each, that was the end of jumping on counters...

Where we find them after dinner!

next wink

Ahhhhhhh LEMON MERINGUE PIE....

yep this is my pie....all mine..David is not a fan of sour!

I have never been a sweet person, SOUR has my name all over it. I love Lemons, sour cherries, rhubarb, limes, sour apples...

So I make a lot ( ok maybe not a LOT) but on occasion, I will attempt, an upside down rhubarb cake, a lemon meringue pie...

The funny thing about last week, is I went to 4 upscale bakeries...They pride themselves in scratch and pantry baking..YOU know fresh ingredients, things you can find in your very own pantry...

I asked every one of their head pastry chefs about their LEMON MERINGUE pies....although they hated to admit it to me....( and I did say I would not OUT THEM) not one of them makes their own lemon filling, not one even  their meringue...They all come in pails and tubs.... Their crusts are frozen... "ARE YOU  KITTEN ME?"

As you can see, I used quite a few lemons and eggs......

That made me so sad, it was a special occasion for me and I really wanted a TREAT...but NOOOOOOOOOOOO, I had to gather all FRESH ingredients to make my very own LEMON MERINGUE pie....

Now don't get me wrong, I love to bake and to cook for that matter, even went to culinary school, I think, scratch that, I know I am a very good baker lol....So I made my own PANTRY PIE....

FRESH LEMONS, FRESH EGGS, FRESH LARD ( for my crust), a fresh container of cornstarch, some sugar, ( but I cut it down considerably) as I shared I love sour....

I thought I would share what your favourite pie says about you.....

If your favorite pie is this, you're...

*Apple. Wholesome and a bit middle-of-the road, playing it safe.

*Banana cream. An overachiever who just wants to relax and not be in charge.

*Blueberry. Outdoorsy and determined.

*Cherry. Oversweet, in need of tarness and passion.

*Chocolate. Suave, seductive, strong, addictive.

*Coconut cream. Probably a man seeking an exotic-lite escape from reality.

*Lemon. Bright, energetic and sharp-tongued. ( yep that is me....I OWN IT) lol

*Mincemeat. An Anglophile who watches Masterpiece Theater, listens to NPR and fantasizes about being in England, sipping port with pie.

*Peach. A sun-worshiper who's found sunshine on a pie plate.

*Pecan. Simple in your tastes and seeking more sweetness in life.

*Pumpkin. Attatched to your past but comfy in your present.

*Rhubarb. Old-fashioned (or a total hipster).

*Sweet potato. Family-oriented, with a real sense of Southern hospitality.

and if you hate pie, I have no idea what is says about you....

And more news, WE BECAME FEATHER KEEPERS TO A NEW BABY...
1st one was born this am...this is all I could get as far as photos go...Mumm was pretty upset...so I will let her look after her baby...will check again tomorrow..

So back to lemon meringue pie...what is your favourite pie and why?
and who makes your fav pie...

oh must run, I have the Riot Boys whimpering for dinner...
in their sweet china bowls....

Cheerio.

  1. My favorite lately is cranberry pie and my favorite pies are always made by me. I am also a fan of fresh ingredients and locally made and I'm the most local baker I know. :)

  3. I love your all white planters. I thought of you this morning at HH garden center in town, they had an all white hanging basket.
It is sad to say-I have never met a pie flavour that I did not like. Once I even had pumpkin-mincemeat. It was delicious!.

    1. Ahhh Ev, my white planters are actually garbage bins..cost under 5.00 each...I looked at the prices of planters, and thought, no way I am spending 30.00 a piece...when a garbage bin will do lol I will have to go to HH I need some more planters, and I need a couple ferns...they do well on our deck... and it is so sad..never a pie you say ...lol now pumpkin and mincemeat....mmmm not sure about that one lol

  4. What a sweet post to start my day with :) Samm, you are always full of positive emotions and share them with us! As for the pies... I prefer not-sweet pies, with potato, or with eggs+green onions (my favourite), homemade by anyone :)

    1. Ohhh it was Mary, there is only one slice leftover....I had a sliver each day, ok, maybe more than a sliver and one day I had 2 pieces, there I said it ....lol I did not eat anything else that day, PIE was enough for me...and the Windmill can you believe a checkered one...it sooooo spoke to me...and the Teens are upset with me at the moment as I just potted all my deck plants and they are in the window pouting....they are just way to fast for me to care for them by myself, so when David comes out this evening we will let them roam ....lol

  8. I love the pinwheel. I had to get a couple yesterday for the strawberry hill to keep the birds out, but mine are really boring!

My favorite pie is also Lemon Meringue. I love that tartness. That is interesting that they don't make their own. I've always tried to get that "clear" lemon filling when I make mine. No luck yet.

    1. aren't they pretty....I never saw pinwheels till I came home...they were not something you see in France...I was always fascinated by them...the border crosser yesterday could not help but smile when I put it out of my window :see my pinwheel...lol. I know the shops, and expensive shops at that...don't have time to make it from scratch....so many shortcuts these days...

HI Cori, well I do know we share that passion too...sour things...wonder what that really says about us...either we are too sweet or not enough lol...And I have to admit I do like apple pie...there is something about that pie that brings me back to a child of 7....My Nan was a master at baking....and her apple pies well we both shared that too...she too liked lemon and butterscotch pies... my windmill is spinning and it just makes me smile...the baby bird is still very quiet and just has its mouth open...no others have showed up yet....

  10. I just love that we share a love for gingham. I don't think I will ever get tired of it....especially since I have three chairs and a stool covered in it and have fabric to make curtains for my sewing room. Love it! Now as far as pie goes- Pie is my favorite sweet. Better than cake or cookies or anything else. My favorites are coconut creme, lemon and chocolate. Yours looks YUMMY, and that meringue! Yes, please. Hugs...

  11. Oh, dear Samm, that's such a sweet post here! I like bakery so much and when I say, that I like cooking, I mean usually baking. I adore pies! And I like different kinds of them, but lemon meringue is among my favourite ones! In one of my post I wrote about cinnamon and vanila, and mentioned a cinnamon cheesecake and even wrote the recipe in comments (http://zinaidaanzhe.blogspot.ru/search/label/%D0%BA%D1%83%D0%BB%D0%B8%D0%BD%D0%B0%D1%80%D0%B8%D1%8F%2Fcooking). I got it from my teacjer in university. I like to do it for my family and I know they like it too! And also I like cooking a meat pie for my husband (http://zinaidaanzhe.blogspot.ru/2015/02/peace-love-and-happiness-in-whole-world.html). It is so delicious! By the way, I like your windmill! I bought one-like for daughter, so I have a real reason to pretend a child in parks and other public places:)))

  12. I really enjoyed reading this today.
All of it, from beginning to baby birdie.
The pie. I like apple and peach.
Hobby Lobby is the neatest store. We have one about 7 miles from my house. They have a lot of stuff. Cool fun stuff, a lot of things you can find for gifts (my girls and I call it Hooby Looby because we are silly)
Your kitty boys are doing what mine are. Snoozing.
Miles is finicky today so he has not eaten a morsel. He is funny. NOw he is licking the faucets.
I have a great recipe for Peach Cobbler but the crust is rather rich.
I hope you can get some planting in this week-end.
We have had rain, and chilly, but the heat is coming soon enough.
Enjoy those baby birds. It is so nice to watch them grow, kind of like grand children, only the baby birds usually are learning how to fly on the day the mowers are coming, so you have to tell them not to mow that whole huge area
    Love always

And yes we are planting and gardening this weekened.weather is supposed to be really good...mulch is coming on friday...so my sweet man has a very long to do list..

  14. My Dear Samm.....that pie is a masterpiece, a thing of beauty and, I'm sure, scrumptydelaliscious!!!!! My 2 favorite pies are Lemon and Chocolate, but the filling has to be home made because I really dislike the phony pudding in a box type of filling. It's the same with potatoes, they must be fresh, because I don't care what they try to do to doctor up those nasty instant pieces, I can always tell.

We have baby Chickadees in one of the bird houses on the deck and from all the fast and furious feeding going on, it won't be too long before they leave the nest. I'm really tempted to get a flashlight and peek inside. Hugs

    1. Hi Sylvia...how you are sweet lady... guess what I am working on ...? wink.
anyway, pies, of course you would like lemon too...maybe it is s a fav of most women over a certain age, do you think? and yes I hate FAKE cooking and baking. I can always tell....which is why we prefer our home cooked meals over going out.... ohh chickadees, that must be heaven to hear and see...today I was out and about and came out of a building where the birds were singing their melodies...I just stood still for a few minutes....love spring...

  15. Hmmmm....pie....would have to be apple pie made by my best friend Chrissie - she doesn't like to bake and doesn't do it often but when she does her apple pie is always a winner!

  16. I know there are plenty of baby birds around but none where I can get a picture. But I have 12 new baby chicks!!! So adorable. My favorite pie is pecan, I'm from Texas, need I say more. Key Lime does run a really close second though! I wish I could catch a nap the way the boys do. Really need one today.

  17. What a cute pinwheel! Yes, it has your name all over it!
My favorite pie? I think Key Lime! It's not on the list and I'm afraid to know what it says about me. Since I'm allergic to eggs, I have to make my own version, but I've passed it off as the real thing many times!

    1. it does lol....key lime...I think that falls into the lemon...I like key lime too...no eggs..oh my Linda...we had a quiche last night...and eggs are a must around here...what do you do?

      Delete
    2. What do I do? It depends on what function the egg serves in the recipe. For Key Lime Pie, I just mix sweetened condensed milk, lots of lime juice, and then I fold some Cool Whip in to give it more stability. It works just fine! Yummy!!

      Delete
    3. now that is a good idea...now cool whip I am not a fan of ..but if you cannot use eggs, you need some kind of emulsifier....way to go to make it still yummy x
