I have a crush on you Ms YELLOW Gingham...

Now who is surprised by that statement?

...if you have been following me for any time or have seen the decor in our home, you would know you can count on me to always be working on something GINGHAM. ( and apparently lots of yellow gingham)

And I blame this all on this woman...My Nanny...Her home too was decorated in gingham... Her kitchen in the summer was always decorated in yellow gingham curtains and in the winter, she had a deep blue gingham.  She also wore a lot of gingham....And you wonder how our family can influence our passions in life.? I am now totally convinced, GINGHAM will always be part of my life... It certainly was in hers and she lived till she was 106... ( in this pic she was in her mid 80's)

As much as I think my taste has changed over the years, I am still drawn to YELLOW
everything....I got to thinking what I have worked on just these past couple of years...

I have been working on a LARGE OTTOMAN in red and white...
and then I put the brakes ON ....HOLD ON HERE........I have to switch that NOW...

Look at all this yellow gingham...DUHHHHH~

I made this yellow gingham quilt, still my favourite with a minkie back in white,
I drag this everywhere...it has a top with an embroidery line
of her starched white apron....the lace I have on the top above the ruffle
is from her bedskirt...

" When I think of gingham- I think of her in her starched white
apron pouring tea"
and note all those self covered gingham buttons...yep...one black one lol

I can always be found in my sewing studio with my yellow and white gingham walls..
I have plans for this in our next home too...I don't think I could have a sewing studio
now without yellow and white gingham walls...good thing I have a post on how
to do it so I can repeat it myself wink....

( we have been talking about adding gingham walls to a few rooms...ie bedroom
in taupes, bathroom in pinks....)

I even have gingham glasses that I found that are perfect, yellow would not have looked
that good on my face lol

IN our hallway, you can see my paper ladies apple pie pillow....what a nice
greeting it is for everyone who comes by....
WITH gingham ruffles of course !

and then I had made this gingham heart and yellow needlepoint footstool. It is by
our window bench, so the boys can get up with ease....I am forever brushing off their
white fur .... little sacrifice !

Our kitchen stools have this ruffled gingham and dots
and yes the yellow stands out again...

So here we are entertaining building a new home and of course we have been
thinking of furniture...WE thought this would be perfect...I have located
the company who makes this fabric so I will  be speaking to our upholsterer
who has made all of our furniture and see what we can come up with..

David actually loved it too.....
So this new project I am working on will now be done in Yellow GINGHAM
To match this collection and what seems my
YELLOW GINGHAM obsession!

And one of my most favourite Tammy Bags is this one
that Cori designed ( design)  for me with Sumatra by my side...
Seems this one is never far from my site...
Now it does have yellow gingham lining..wink..

So if someone were to ask me what my favourite colour is,
I would have to say YELLOW, even though for the longest time I thought is was RED...

so today I will be now working on something with YELLOW GINGHAM!
YOU can count on that!

Tell me, what colour have you made more things in?
Yellow, Red, Blue, Green, Violet, Orange.....!!!
adding this so I can pin it to my new kitchen requirements....
It took some doing, but after much thought and "homey features"
this is what our new kitchen will look like..

  2. Ahhh yes, yellow. Of course yellow, the color of sunshine. Seems perfectly fitting for you...and you know why *wink. I always thought mine would have been blue...but looking around here, I think it may be white...lol. I love the softness of yellow, it makes a beautiful backdrop to your accents of red and black. I love each and every one of your yellow projects, and your post has come just at the perfect time as I sit here debating on which color to make a "secret" project.... Yellow it is! Oh.... you are gonna LOVE this to add to the yellow collection! xx

  4. All so lovely! Those yellow walls are still one of the best ever projects I've seen! It's just brilliant. Your Nanny clearly passed on the gingham loving gene :) I love navy and black gingham the best, probably because of the impact of the contrast.

    1. Ahhh she was beautiful everywhere we went people thought she was my Mumm and when I would try to correct them she would pinch or kick me lol...She loved that we were so similar, in fact the only 2 with blue eyes in the family...She truly was my inspiration and mentor for decades...

  6. I LOVE GINGHAM too but it has to be good gingham.
I do not like the thin cheesy stuff.

Are you moving? ?? next to me?
Or just buying a vacation home? Or are you moving to the old folks home.
Don't laugh, I would move to Ashby Ponds in a heart beat.
I love all of your projects, I love that quilt, and I adore that bag that Cori made.
Your Nanny is a cutie. We had two different ones when we were little, Frau Gertrude, who I remember well, she loved to dance. And Krystal, I do not remember her much, only that she had dark hair.

Here is an apartment I would love, and I would live on the 5th floor of the new building being built at Ashby Ponds.
https://www.ericksonliving.com/ashby-ponds/apartments/deluxe-two-bedroom-two-and-half-bath-family-room-utility-room-and-bay-window. No porch, but there is another home that has a huge porch.
Now I just have to come up with $600K
Have a super fun day with your kittyboys.
    I love that couch!!

  7. First of all your Nanny is adorable! And those genes are apparently quite strong :)
When I looked at your sewing room I almost flipped- it's gorgeous! (and mine is a huge mess so I felt a bit ashamed haha)
I'm a pink and blue girl, have been for so long. It just seems that I'm drawn to those 2 colors most. Our bedroom is yellow and it's been cheerful but I'm ready for a change- sometime a little more serene. I don't think yellow is the best pick for a bedroom, but that's just me. I do love yellow, and red. The only colors I don't favor are orange and purple as a rule.
PS. I miss the boys!!!!! :D

    1. Ahh Sue check my last post with the Downton Abbey...lots of pics of the riot boys...
and I am pretty neat...I hate having anything on the floors or scattered..my cabinets are not even full, I keep emptying them so I can see everything...it is not a large room so it is easy to clean...and yes yellow in a bedroom is not recommended..red not good either...I usually have either taupes, creams, soft greys...

    2. I DID see the last post- I simply have to see the Riot Boys whenever I get a post in my mailbox :) xx

I absolutely love your quilt! Is there a pattern available for it by chance? Definitely a big girl drag around quilt! Loved this post!

apron pouring tea"....hello Cathy, that is the quote above the gingham...sadly i never made a pattern for it as it was so personal, the quote, the ruffle, the bed skirt I added, the tea pot and cup I appliquéd, and I used 3 colours of fabric to make the pattern...Anyone could do that.. I added an extra photo of detail. It is funny isn't it, we can like one colour but seem to have other colours around us....your combo sounds lovely... yes this is certainly my big girl quilt I take everywhere with me....

    1. HI Kris....a yellow shag...mmmmm I really cannot imagine that....but you know something I too had a yellow bedroom, completed with yellow ruffled curtains and yellow bedspread....seems yellow has always been in my life....and still I did not think it was my fav colour.... and re: sectional...my David is a real MAN'sMAN, I am surprised he liked it so much...I think for him, as we already have butter cream loungers, he thinks comfort....so it works for him, so I am smiling and hehehe too lol
