Update on your LOST Followers with Google/blogger .....sadly they are gone FOREVER!

I have received many hundreds of emails asking
me if I knew what was going on with our Followers...
Here is an update ..

DATED - January 26-27th 2016
lost followers update
( you will note you will keep losing followers.
no end yet....)

I noted I lost another 300 followers just last night.... ( jan 26)
All of them were those who did not have a GOOGLE ACCOUNT...
sadly it reflects on our numbers but not visitors...
Those who follow you will still follow you ....

I have not lost visitors, in fact you have been following more each day
than last year...so thank you....

Many of you will note your followers have dropped too this morning,
you did not offend 10-12-100 followers in a day....
it is not PERSONAL....just GOOGLE trying to make things better for us....

( your lost followers by the way will not be reflected back in your numbers
they are gone forever...sad to say)

here is their message..

Dear bloggers,

As we mentioned some weeks ago, starting this week, we’ll remove the ability for people with Twitter, Yahoo, Orkut or other OpenId providers to sign in to Google Friend Connect and follow blogs. To follow a blog via Google Friend Connect now, readers will need a Google Account (the same they use for Gmail or YouTube). There will be no need for readers to be signed in, or to have a Google+ profile.

  • What does  this mean for you and your blog? We’ll remove non-Google Account profiles so you may see a decrease in your blog follower count

  • What can you do now? You should encourage your users to re-follow your blog using a Google account. Another way to allow users to follow your blog is with the  “Follow by Email” gadget, which  requires you to set up Feedburner. By subscribing to your blog, readers will be notified via e-mail every time there is a new post.

  • To install the “Follow by Email” gadget:
    • Go to blogger.com and choose the blog you want to install the gadget
    • On the left menu, click on Layout
    • Once in the layout page, click on add a gadget
    • Find the “Follow by email” gadget and click on the + sign next to it

  • Choose the title of the gadget but don’t change your Feedburner URL
  • Click on Save and then Save arrangement on the top right corner.

We know how important followers are to all bloggers, but we believe this change will improve the experience for both you and your readers.

Thank you,

Blogger support team

  6. And over here it's the same story with the followers. Well, I don't mind, as long as they enjoy visiting and reading my blog, whether there's only 1, 10, or 1000 a day :>)
    Enjoy your day, cheers!

  7. I know you have been keeping an eye on this for a while... so thank you for the info. So many visit without following, but it is that gadget that seems to make you feel like people are reading your blog. It is sad to watch that number fall. However, seems Google has some better plans for us... or themselves...lol.

    1. Well your note brought a smile too Leeanne, I don't get it all either. Every day people will be losing followers, I have seen it across the board, Google is just way too powerful to care, they don't see how it affects millions who look at those numbers has a sign of WELL DONE, WE CARE.....welllllll, we do care, and we are still here....and you know something
we will get over this too....because we are WOMEN WITH HEART...

    1. HI Olga, and yes many who are not even aware of the changes think they did something or said something wrong on their blog...WE have to get this message out...it has nothing to do with them...it is just Blogger/Google trying to get anyone who follows blogs to sign up with google, to create an account...sadly it is forcing many to abort their blogs and go to facebook and instagram. So like you I am staying put....it is never greener on the other side of the fence....x

    1. HI Jeannet, it could be 2 reasons why...1. you may only have bloggers who are following you or 2. They have not reached your country yet?....
YOU may be the ONLY ONE I have heard from where your followers have not changed...
Quick go by a ticket of some kind lol

  17. I have also lost many followers, and it's already the second time. I don't understand a lot about why they are doing it but now I expect everything to become brighter and easier and more beautiful on blogger. LOL. But for following other blogs I use Feedly, and they haven't changed a thing since I moved my blog roll over to them some years ago. I hope this will stay like that.

    1. I know Brigitte...I too expect wonderful things but I will certainly not hold my breath lol... and Feedly is a good one....hopefully google will stay away from them and not manage those followers too....I am so puzzled at their reasoning...

    1. I so agree Sylvia....and there is no way to get to all those who were taken from our list of followers as they do not see our emails anymore or blogs as they have been removed from their readers list....

  19. Thank you so much for this information as I was wondering what was happening. I've lost followers as few of my French readers have a google account. I just hope they don't think I've deleted them. Were they told that they needed a google account to continue to follow? I've always appreciated them being there. Lynne.

    1. You are welcome...many will keep losing followers too as they have not finished cleaning up all the non ID followers. Your followers will not know anything unless they visit you often, and we are not giving a list of all those they deleted so we can let them know what happened...I am still getting emails because many think they did something wrong and people did not like their blog or posts....sad isn't it?

  20. Hi dear Samm,
thank you for providing us with that information. I do not have so many followers so my loss is about 5 to 10, but I nevertheless was wondering why this happened. Now I know it, thank you!

    Have a wonderful weekend
    Hugs

    1. Hi Hilda....yes it affected those who do not have google accounts so perhaps many of your followers were all those who have a gmail address....they are going through all the non ID addresses and just eliminating them from our followers...Whether we lose 1 or 100's we really notice it and many wrote me thinking they did something wrong to hurt feelings wink.

    1. I know Ellie...it does not make sense. Blogger eliminated anyone who did not have a gmail address, for instance aol, yahoo....they are gone forever. Many of us have lost 100's of followers too. We will see the benefits in the future, what they will be I have no idea...
      sad isn't it?
