The kindness of neighbors....

Last week, one of our dear neighbours knocked on our door and presented me with this very PINK kitty...He  shared that they had just heard of Sumatra's passing and wanted to do something as they  knew far too well the grief of saying goodbye to one of our sweet and dear pets......I laughed when he presented it to me as it was this shocking PINK....He saw the expression on my face and said " we know you paint".....and winked at me....

It did not take me long to grab my painting box, mask and some TREMCLAD paint....and get painting ( or rather spraying first) .... I taped the eyes, and they were blue...can you believe that?  I lightly sprayed it and left it overnight....it went from this....

to this.....a ghost of Sumatra.......lol
I had already framed one of my favourite photos of Sumatra, so I followed
that the next day and got some of my flat black paints out and just painted
my cat planter to resemble Sumatra as best as I could..

It was quite therapeutic and a couple tears did  fall down my cheek,
and I thought how silly she would think of me painting her.....
How could I ever duplicate my sweet VELCRO...?

At the moment she sits on our mantle in our living room....
I was out the other day  looking for the perfect plant, but could not find
one just yet....maybe a small poinsetta, when they come out soon will
look nice ....

It is a month today and at times it feels like yesterday and other moments
years ago....I don't cry every day anymore, but I do get misty eyed
when I think I see or hear her bells.

David says she is still here....
As shared in a previous post..
"She is everywhere but nowhere but still here"

I have never known such grief,  I suppose when YOU LOVE
as much as any of us do for our sweet pets, be they dogs, cats, rabbits,
horses......They manage to stitch such lovely memories
into our hearts and we are never ever the same again...

In a couple of weeks,
Sumo will be here, and the adventure will begin all over again
and then another month from now, Monchat will be here...

Funny thing about LOVE, if we open our hearts
wide enough, the love just keeps pouring in....
And they will be the best prescription to our broken hearts...

I just know they will, because I am loving them already...

Your both new kittens are so cute, I know you will love them. From my own experience I know that it is good to get a new task with such little and cute kittens. Have fun and please show us many pictures of them.

  6. How very sweet of your neighbor to think of you and bring a bright pink smile to your face. I do like your painted version so very much better. Sumatra will be pleased that one of her has to have two replacements...Sumatra was extra special after all. Time is magical as it lessons the pain.

  8. It's always sad to loose a much loved pet and your Sumatra looked beautiful - I'm guessing a Birman?

Sadly, our elderly Birman beauty Muffy, at 19 years old, is suffering health problems and slowing down now. So we are doing our best to keep her happy and comfortable but realise that sooner rather than later we will not have her. In the meantime she is getting plenty of attntion and lots of cuddles. As she is getting elderly, all she really wants is to be sitting on one of our laps and keep close.

    1. Hi Jenny, many think she was a Birman, but she is a Ragdoll and so are the 2 new kittens that are coming...seal bi-colour and blue point. I can only imagine how you are feeling...19 years is a long time to have a companion....Birman's are lovely cats...enjoy those loving moments it will be those moments that will comfort you later on..x

  15. Hi, my dear Mdm Samm,
you have painted this cat planter amazingly. It really looks very much similar to your beloved Sumatra.
Isn't there any plant, that Sumatra loved. Our cat loved to nibble on thyme, so planted some different plants of thyme on his grave.
Maybe there is a plant existing that Sumatra liked very much - than you can put this into the cat planter.

Your new babies looks sooooooooo sweet!

    Have a wonderful new week!

    Hugs

  19. I can relate. We had to put our dog Molly of 14 years to sleep 3 weeks ago. We were devastated to say the least. She took a piece of our hearts with her. We did put all of her things away; but I purchased a canvas print and hung it on the wall and I feel like she is here in spirit. The vet also made a clay print of her paw. We are not sure if we will be getting another dog yet, we think we will wait a little bit. But as you said, you don't cry as much as you use to but everywhere you look it reminds you of them.....everyday. I am so glad I have such wonderful memories of Molly as I know you do as well. I love your new little kitten...I am sure she will be a joy...

and there is 2 kittens coming..those pics are both different, look at their noses...David thought it best to have 2 as our T-cup is aging quickly these days...Her heart is still broken too...she looks for her every day....sits by the door waiting....it is so sad...x

  21. We had to give up our Charlie when we moved. A few weeks later he ran away from the new owners. My daughter dreamed that Charlie found us, and the other night I swear he jumped up on my bed like he used to do and slept on my feet. It is heartbreaking, especially for my girls. Charlie was my quilt kitty, following me around the house wherever I would go to quilt or sew. Now I just have to talk to myself while I'm quilting. Cats are special people. I guess I could say the same of any dear pet. Very cute little planter. It will be a sweet reminder.

  22. I don't know, kinda liked it pink. ;) LOL Great paint job. Lovely neighbors. Unfortunately we do not have neighbors like that anymore where I live. The best have passed on and the new ones I barely know. Nice to know that some neighbors are still neighborly. Your boys are growing quickly. So adorable. Poor Teacup, I hope she finds friends in the new kitties.
