Some COLOUR to stir up our FALL. ----Tea anyone?

Fall has most certainly made its entrance. I am already thinking flannel, warm socks and throws ...
Ohhh and TEA we can not forget Tea to begin our day.... Funny how I switch to tea in the fall...coffee in the winter months...

I loved our summer and although I do love our 4 seasons, I find this year a bit daunting. I  have been planning some projects to get me through this season and one of them besides our  October, Paper Ladies which I just completed ..... (we are just finishing up the pattern)  I  was able to dress my teapot in this lovely white and yellows yarns. we found these lovely washable yarns from Spud and Chloe ..
Spud and Chloe Sweater yarn, it is perfect for Tea Pot Kozes...

Cori and I were searching for something that would make great KOZE for our teapots among other planned projects ... Spud and Chloe have these washable yarns that feel like cotton but are 55% wool and 45% organic cotton ..they are worsted weight and perfect for winter wear and throws ... And their colours  are so rich looking ....

I was up very early this am, so I ended up having breakfast a la candle light...
I love when my mornings begin with such simplicity...
This crochet tablecloth is a heritage piece, from what my Nanny shared with me
her and her mom and  grandmother worked on this. And given my Nanny lived till she was 106
and she has been gone now almost 8 years, it has to be at least 100 years old..
She said they started it when she was in her 20's....there is not a stain on it,
not a hole from any wear or tear, and I have had it on my table for decades...
Whatever  yarn they used is amazing... I wash it at least every couple of weeks
and put in on the clothesline...still looks like it was just made...

That is why I wanted to learn how to CROCHET...
Ohhhh I was entering my apple pie filling recipe in my book this am...

Speaking of Yarn choices....

There are tons of yarn choices out there but what is often frustrating is the LACK OF COLOUR choices....not the case here.   Here are some colours I chose for some winter projects. I am loving crochet and although I just learned how to crochet a couple months ago, I am finding designing patterns quite easy..instead of fabric, I am just using yarn... As yarn is much more pliable, you can cover anything with just the basics. I am hooked !

Now I am going to work out something for my red and white polka dot tea pot...Surely Cori will have something outstanding..she has decades of expertise on me...wink..

Ohhh one more thing...

Something I was missing was a YARN bowl....I found the perfect thing that I am sure many would never consider...A vintage enamel strainer is perfect and a whole lot less $$ than all the yarn bowls on the market... I also have a basket that makes for a perfect Yarn Storage...
one of my baskets from Peterborough Baskets is just perfect...

So today after running some errands and getting caught up on
some paper work for our family businesses....

I will be pouring me another cup of tea...
join me will you?

  2. It is just gorgeous Samm!!! How can you be designing this after only crocheting for a month or two? But then again....looks like talent runs in the family. YOU are just beginning to discover it, and it has been there all along. That tablecloth is gorgeous. I want to make one of those some day. This is such an amazing example of why it is important to use the best quality of yarns(or fabric) that you can afford. Look at that beautiful thing after all these years! I can't wait to use our amazing yarn finds. Love the colors of Spud and Chloe too!!!

    1. You make me smile...designing this was pretty easy, it is not a cable stitch or shell, just plain old rib stitch....now the flowers, even they are so much easier since I made them smaller...
and yes choosing the best yarns so we can keep things for decades as heirlooms is my gift to my family... they may appreciate it someday like I have too!
