Always a Sign....

Halloween is a special holiday for us. We met on Halloween 26 years ago,
so we married on that same day, but 10 years later....

It was a long engagement. My choice.
He did ask me every year but it was not until his wonderful Dad
took me out on his boat and asked me to marry his son.
He was such a wonderful man and I respected him so much
so I accepted his proposal on behalf of his son....
I will ALWAYS love him and his son....

ALWAYS has ALWAYS been our word....
When we travelled together on business, in medical sales at the time.
( this was before I went to Pharma)
WE both drove our own vehicles but we would schedule our business
trips so we would be in the same city...
Hence if we lost one another for a bit, when we would merge
back into traffic, we would  do this SIGN of ALWAYS...

I know SIGN LANGUAGE from Nursing, so we have
all kinds of signs that we use when we are out...

For ANNIVERSARIES, we surprise each other
with even and odd years...David has the even years..( we take turns in celebrating this day)
Last year he surprised me with a trip to Nashville....I have the odd years..
So this year, I wanted to do something he would
ALWAYS remember....

I went out with my camera and I took shots of TREES and.....will explain the S in a moment...
I chose TREES that were shaped in the letters A L W A Y.....these are landmarks in our
area....Each TREE are those we see in our travels ....They are all SIGNS of the love we have for our surrounding area...We love living on the Escarpment of Wine Country...

Now the S, was a hard one , as how do you find an S shaped tree?....Well - we have this bridge we travel into the city, and there is a steel mill, every time we see the steam coming out, we laugh
as I have always said " ohhhh look, the cloud maker is busy today"......

This one day, I was heading to the American side...Niagara Falls is my cross over point...
Customs was very busy that day, and my car was stuck right at the Falls....So I took a few shots it was not from the steel company...but the S cloud would still resonate a wonderful memory... It was like this little miracle...STEAM and cloud in the shape of an S...now reallllly...no photoshop at all either ... in fact when I was taking the shots, I did not see any S ...miracle I say lol..

Sooooooooo....I sent out all of my photos ( black and white) enlarged them to 17 x11 and thought
they would be best placed over our bed...

My plan was to have them laid out like this over the bed...however these letters would have been
hung 8 -10 feet wide...our bed is not that wide....lol

So I placed them over the bed like this, all of our case goods in our bedroom are black, so this
looks very nice... With the cold days upon us, it is time for our Duvet covers back on the bed...We have many chenille covers, this year I ordered this lovely blue cover with matching pillows...our sheets are always white.......so look what arrived...- these lovely hand stitched pillow cases with Always embroidered on them....

Cori designed these matching pair...in fact the pattern will be out very soon..The pattern
will be called FORGET ME NOT....Aren't they beautiful? They are already on our pillows
and I must say, a constant reminder of the LOVE we all share....

They are so gorgeous,  I did not even want to use them...but DAVID insisted ...ohhh and they wash up beautifully....

Our room is actually very bright, so I had to wait till the evening to take a decent photo
otherwise, you would not be able to see this photo...lol

I think this was last summer on David's birthday...I dusted flour on our lawn....
it was hard to miss when he looked our window that morning...these letters were almost
4 feet tall and 2 feet wide....lol

It is nice to have a WORD that signifies our LOVE, FRIENDSHIP and MARRIAGE.....

What would your word be? YOU could do this too you know....

ALWAYS thinking of ways to share our LOVE with YOU!

  9. Samm that is such an amazing story of love! Our word would be Love, no matter what, love is always center in our life. Sounds kind of cliche however, when our lives were upside down and we had to separate for awhile, we never failed to let each other know we still were in love with each other. Happy Anniversary!

  17. Happy Anniversary! What a wonderful story, and thanks for sharing it with us. I showed your post to my husband because I wanted him to see that we are not the only couple with our own word or saying - "Today is our forever!" Knowing that none of us is guaranteed a tomorrow, we live each day as if it might be our last. We wake up each morning thankful to share yet another day together; and at the end of each day, we give a prayer of thanks and joy.

I love your even and odd year idea! How creative. We celebrate anniversaries, but more often just surprise each other with "just because" days. Our favorite gifts are those that do not often include actual gifts but rather special trips or letters to each other. I love what you did with the flour and the pictures, and with your permission, may have to do something similar. :-)

  18. Happy Anniversary Samm and David. Love your photos. I think I recognize the L tree from down below the mountain. It is called the directional tree because the Indian tribe of the area used to tie a branch down to indicate direction of travel. A very long lived tree it is. May your marriage and happiness together be long lived too.xoxo

  33. I know I'm a little late but I wanted to say Happy Anniversary. Such a lovely post. What a romantic thing to do with the pictures. The two of you are such romantics. My husband and I don't have a word. Maybe we should.

Those pillowcases are just beautiful. Was the stitching done all my hand? The highlights in the ribbon are all in the right places. Was that variegated thread? I just adore embroidered pillowcases. The crochet lace is such a lovely finishing touch. I could see these in my room, in my colors. Cori did a beautiful job.
