The more you use the more you have...well that explains it....

Another sweet lady who knows how to inspire us all!

I have had many quiet moments this week ... how inviting they have been
it is like I am getting to know me all over again.

I know some of you will get this ...
but the big reason why so many of started blogging was to showcase
our passions - be it sewing, quilting, embroidery, cross stitching, knitting
and yes even crochet ....

But somehow for me anyway, I got so busy doing for others,
I did not enjoy the Journey anymore. With so many Deadlines (think of this word-- DEAD Lines
Were They Thinking the outline of Our Bodies When we die? lol)
I was so tired, so stressed, I really did not enjoy any of things I was creating ...

HOWEVER that has so changed .... I actually had one of those AHA moments
this week, I WAS When Trying to rush in My learning of this new craft (to me) of Crochet ...

I was so pre-occupied in learning how to do it, I was reading 5 different
books, all different views of course on what to start with and I was
so inspired by you know CORI and Animals All of her ...
I just wanted to learn it all NOW ..

Welllllll, because now I do not have to rush or meet any big deadlines ...
I decided to return to my way of learning ...

I learn things by doing them over and over and over again ..
When I was in Pharma, we had to know a lot of clinical studies by heart ...
We had to memorize, dosing and side effects and evidence based medicine points ..
So I would re-write the pages for days until my fingers (muscle memory) would
know it at the same time as my brain ...

It worked for me ... I can still tell you what drug formularies are,
what dosing, side effects, but that is not helping any of us in CROCHET
is it LOL ...
going to make another dress! in these colours for the MINI invasion!

So I returned to the basics .... SINGLE CROCHET ...
I know how to it now .... so I decided this weeks goal is to make
4 different wash cloths, all in cotton ...
And when I have no doubt  mastered that ... I  will work on DOUBLE CROCHET
and do the same, until I do not have to think about it anymore ...

By the way, I have noted a cotton crochet wash cloth is the best
exfoliate you can use on your face ....
And they wash up like a dream ....

So this is what I started last evening, I will have it done tonight ..
and the next one will be in white and green ....

It is Friday, it is cool here, kinda of like a fall day,
I made a dress this afternoon, PINK gingham ....
it is lovely ... I just put it in the wash, and I will place it on the line
and press it and show you tomorrow ...
I have not made myself clothes in years ....
it is so nice getting to know me again ..

This was mailed to me today, worth noting ... maybe you will take note too ... Thanks sweet lady!

I took this out of hiding and this weekend I am going to layer it all
and start hand quilting it for the fall ...I embroidered a few lines from
Seasons of LOVE .... something to remind of David forever.

  1. I really like your quilt top! I do not enter very many things with deadlines because then that takes all of the fun out of it.

  6. Samm, I think this quote is so true. Your creativity may not have been focused on projects for you before, but was evident in your hops and shining the light on others. I am enjoying the view- watching you slow down and focus all that attention on cute YOU because YOU are the reason I come here to visit. It is so fun to see all you create. I really enjoy seeing you excited about your projects again. Your enthusiasm is so contagious. It is a nice change to see you creating for yourself because you are so deserving of the attention. Can't wait to see your dress. xx ....btw, love your cute quilt, it is going to be a beauty!

    1. funny how things find themselves into your inbox....our sweet lady is in Spain....and no doubt one of the most creative ladies I know, resonated with that quote too...We often joked we thought we would run out of ideas....but then I think of Erma Bombeck and she said, when she was before God she would thank him for all the creativity he gave her and that she hoped she had used it all up....That will be me.....lol It has been a few months now of pure bliss...and certainly playing with you has been the icing on the cake....ok, maybe not icing, as neither of us have sweet tooth...how about a sour cherry on top of cheesecake ....mmmmm lol

  7. Having deadlines can sometimes give me the push I need to focus but it's so important to enjoy the process and not have negative pressure. The gingham quilt looks just beautiful!

  8. I'm so happy for you!! Truly. This is the same revelation I had when I retired. It took me a year to adjust to the fact that my time is MINE and I don't have to accomplish ANYTHING by someone else's deadline. I love crochet and must admit that I never created a hooked character. I love the one in your picture!!
Have a great weekend. As they say...Happy Hooking!!

I've made a few of my own but not in a couple of years. I used to crochet in the car as we traveled. Can't wait to see your quilt all quilted up! blessings, marlene

  16. I remain amazed at the artistry some people can create with crochet. Definitely "not your momma's crochet" anymore. Thank you for reminding me how much I enjoy crocheting. How portable it is. And I am sticking to what I like, small, cute and fun colors. I absolutely refuse to do things I don't like anymore (at least crochet wise). Not enough time to do what I do want to do. Think I'll crochet my grandson some little food items. At least he can't break anything when he throws them. LOL

  17. Just love your outlook.....always! I re evaluated myself after my Cancer treatment. Sometimes Deadlines are ok, like once in awhile. But they surely can take the fun out of creativity. One just has to know the difference of taking a creative break(a few days to a week) and complete burnout, knowing when its time for a change. I would love to see the pattern for the Capelet, I bet you could do it!!
