Vintage HANKIEs can build a WARDROBE, come and meet our new designer friend MARSHA Greenberg!

It's all about Hankies these days...Cori and I have been
on a Hankie MISSION....I suppose you could say we
are obsessed with little squares of fine cottons and linens...
( if you have one or two you would love us to have, we will make something from it)

WE used to be pretty obsessed with FAT quarters,  Layer Cakes,
Jelly Rolls  NOW our focus has been with  6 x6, 8 x8, 10 x 10
beautiful vintage morsels of fine fabrics....

In our search we came across Marsha Greenberg  and her
Hankie Couture  a lovely illustrated fashion book on what to do with
HANKIES. Turns out she is pretty obsessed too with fine
squares and circles of vintage linens...
Turns out we all have a lot in common, turns out she too
has been sewing for years in fashion, turns out we LIKE HER A LOT.

Our hope is to have many of you embracing Marsha and her girls
as we have...I thought I would share some content of her book(s) with you.
She also has a new one for larger dolls and larger fine vintage finds...

But first I want to share some contents of her book..
I have been reading through the pages and her content
is as sweet and delicious as her lovely vintage hankie dresses.

Of course this is one of my favourites...look at all that black red and white...

and take this one a 50's MOM with pearls no less...
isn't she beautiful...Leave it to BEAVER Mom must
have been her inspiration.

this one in such artistic flair ....and look at that fine
square HANKIE, she made this dress and hat and purse..
YES , she did!

I adore this one too..Yellow being my colour too...

You certainly don't have to guess why this page of these two lovely dresses
are possibly my most favourite.....

Cori loved these gems as her colours lie in the hues of blues..
Are they not just perfect...look at those scalloped edges.....

and for those of you who have done embroidery on hankies...
well LOOK at what you can do!

Ahhhh the violets, again, one wee hankie with delicate
edges can be turned into something this beautiful.

NOW Marsha has a bit of an inventory in DRESSES, approx 600 here..
she has designed thousands, these are some of her favourites ...

There is one or two, I would not mind adding to my collection of NONE..
at the moment...that will change there is no doubt about it...

Marsha also has this new book out on Doll Couture, what I enjoyed about this one, is many of her dresses were designed from doilies, pillow cases, runners...and hankies too...each one a delicious reveal of the photos in her mind that she brings to life....

I am so inspired by this lady....I am so inspired by her beautiful skill, her beautiful stitches...

Look at all those roses....from a doily no less...

Again Marsha, displays her talent by adding
doilies with vintage hankies and look ruffles
on her cuffs...be still my heart..

I am in awe...there is just not enough words to describe this!

As the months unfold we ( Cori and I and we hope Marsha will jump in) we are going to show
you more Vintage Hankies and how to incorporate them into our Paper Ladies....

Remember what I did with our JUNE lady, I used a vintage
hankie that belonged to my Nanny...and this was before
( link here to see more, she sells some of her vintage Hankie designs on Ebay too)

YOU know there is something pretty amazing about a world
that has people like Marsha Greenberg in it..
She makes you believe that  a piece of 8 x8 vintage hankie
has so many possibilities....

YOU too can build a wardrobe for pennies lol...
ok lot's of pennies...

We are so pleased to introduce Marsha and her girls to YOU!

Now I must run, David has his Conquer Cancer ride that many
of you supported, ( with so much heart and tenderness, thank you so much)
his ride is this weekend, from Niagara Falls to Hamilton on Saturday,
Sunday Hamilton to Niagara Falls)
He has been training for months, he is doing pretty well , I just know
his determination and passion to beat this disease that has no friends
will be a reality....

In sweet tenderness for so much these days!

  9. Oh, my goodness, just had to comment today as the memory this post brought to mind for me is wonderful. Back in the 60s, when my military father spent long periods away from the family, my mother had many a long evening to fill. I had a long wish list for a wardrobe for my Barbie doll and my mother worked in secret to create the tiny clothes from all her fabric scraps. I vividly remember two sundresses she created from floral hankies, light filmy fabric with the prettiest flowers, mostly hand stitched because the seams were too fine to be formed under the clunky sewing machine. Everything old is new again.

  10. I just totally am in awe of Marsha's designs, incuding both her dolls and her clothing creations as well as a pin cushion and her first stuffed dog that I purchased!! Her books areabsolutely wonderful as well! I have both books but Doll Couture I will need to get in paperback so I can have physical copies of the patterns. I am more familiar with fine theread crochet for Barbie dolls and regular crochet for American Girl dolls in making clorhes. I am thinking now definitely of venturing into sewing since Marsha's instructions are so clear and easy to read!! Each version of Marsha's dolls have there own name so when I finish receiving Marsha's dolls, I will be able to keep track of them. Marsha's 18 inch dolls are so much prettier than American Girl dolls! I just love them! Her 11 and a half inch dolls are simply gorgeous as well! I am waiting to see more of Marsha's creations!

  14. There used to be a store called Daisy Kingdom in Portland Oregon. This store had lots of fabric including some panels for making little girls and doll dresses and other clothing. One of their panels was vintage style hankies. You might be able to find one of these panels on eBay, etc. I used to have one of the panels, but think I used it up on a project. I love the Hankie Couture website. In my thrift shop hauntings I come across hankies every now and then and always snatch them up!
