A hugggggge job needs a big Calculator...designing a pergola. June Paper Lady update...

This is what 20 yards of 60 inches wide looks like on my giant sewing table....
( the ground of our backyard) Trust me that was a lot of fabric to make
the pattern for our 2nd pergola....

This is Sunbrella fabric, ( outdoor use and sailing fabric) although no sailing is planned
we will certainly be covered....This fabric is heavy and thick and trying to measure, calculate
exact measurement and sewing ..welllll let's say I was a glow most of Saturday....

Don't you love my CALCULATOR.. it is 3  feet x 1.5 feet wide..
My beloved has a wicked sense of humour...I was constantly asking.
"where is my calculator?", I don't ask anymore..hard to lose such a large TOOL...:)

I had to do some cutting and piecing and see that pleat...welll there are 3 more of those..
and all the grommets are sewn on...HOWEVER Sunday we had a needed rain
so we did not get it up...perhaps this evening....

My beloved surprised me on Saturday when a trip to the hardware was needed
for some more screws...He picked up this fan and sprayer...let me say it was most welcomed..
The temperature reached the high 90's , almost 40 C...
We did manage to put up our coolaroos, these are special blinds that keep out 90% of UV rays
and they are see through and keep our pergolas quite cool...
WE still have another to  put up when we get the other cover/tarp up.....
But this is what happened on Sunday...it never stopped raining...the clouds were beautiful....I love
summer rainstorms...even though technically we are still in Spring....hard to believe with all this
severe weather changes...Yesterday it felt like a cold fall, it dipped to 40's, 6 C.....

 Calm right before the storm!

This photo is from my hanging plants on our deck...look closely, they look like white moths...
aren't they pretty...?

And speaking of Pretty...did you see Cori;s Applique lady..wait till you see all the details on her blog....She turned JUNE paper lady into a  FASHIONISTA..... Look at that ruffle and the details of her dress? She amazes me with all of her fine stitchings....

Here are my trio...Cori showed pics of her trio...I completely forgot that ...so I took
a trio pic this am....I just love these ladies....

Each one anyone works on would be so different , we show you all the steps...
every little detail so you too can be a FASHION DESIGNER...

YOU make my heart smile..
thank you !

  2. Your calculator....that is just too funny Samm! You have created such a beautiful place to enjoy your garden, shielded from the sun and in the cool of the shade. It is quite amazing that you sewed it all up yourself. Your talent knows no bounds. YOUR trio is stunning. Wow Samm, look at all of these amazing girls we have created. Your color sense is so impressive. Each time I get scared, because they so different than mine, but magic happens and they blend together like sisters. I can't wait to see them all displayed together. You are such an inspiration, on so many levels. xx

  4. Lovely Ladies you and Cori are creating. I had to laugh at the size of your calculator! The aspect ratio of it to the fabric you are stitching is actually quite appropriate. Your gardens and patio are truly gorgeous and inspirational. Those little white flowers are like lovely ballerinas dancing Swan Lake...and they look like beautiful white moths flying free. Rain would be so welcome here in CA. Creative Bliss Dear...

  5. I have made huge draperies, but never a pergola cover. I think handling that fabric would be exhausting!!!
It's going to be so pretty and so useful, though! Don't you feel proud?
Those little white flowers DO look just like moths! Wow! God has such a wonderful sense of humor as well as design!
    The Paper ladies are gorgeous!!

    1. Hi Judy....ohhh good to hear you will have one...I am telling you it brings the heat down by at least 10 degrees and with our season being much shorter than yours...it is nice to be out doors and breathing in the very fresh air...sad to hear you still have no rain, even we were getting worried, it was 3 weeks our grass was crispy...I can’t even imagine what you are all going through...there is such an imbalance in our world at the moment...

  17. Now that is one HUGE calculator. It would be hard to loose it.

The pergola project was quite the task, but I am sure it turn out beautifully. You should have just moved the machine outside as the grass would provide a great sewing table. I'll bet you are glad to have that finished and ready to enjoy.

  18. HI Mary....I thought you would see the humour in that....I did think of that with my machine , but I already had it on the island in the kitchen as I needed the height to sew all that fabric....but today I am under it and basking in our efforts..it is beautiful... wish you could join me..
