Ohhh Oscar….

Who does not have that favourite MOVIE or MOVIES that are "our go to" when we want to laugh, cry, reminisce or just escape…?

Oscars are tomorrow and like every year for at least 25 years now, my DH and I get formally dressed, and we celebrate with a 4 course meal….It has been our DATE event of the year. This year  is no exception. Our menu has changed as our taste in movies but we can always count on many laughs and a ton of memories that to this day touches both our hearts and senses...

I thought I would share some of my all time favourites….OK, one of these did not even  close to an  Oscar nod but in my heart and soul, the all linger and bring out such tender moments…

When I want to laugh…."What about Bob?" with Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss.

Bill plays Bob Wiley, a psychiatric patient with many phobias who follows Richard( Dr. Leo Marvin)
on vacation…  I have memorized the whole script….I  can't tell you how many times I have seen this epic of a comedy

They never received any awards, but that does not matter, I am sure they sold millions upon millions of dvds! ) or downloads! and in my heart, "What about BOB? won an oscar for laughs!

When I want to be scared out of my mind….. "The Exorcist" I have only watched it 2x

To this day it gives me the creeps and did I am sure wonders for the growth of Catholic Sunday Services.  ( I will never forget any of the scenes, which is why I have only watched it 2x)In The Exorcist a child is possessed by a mysterious entity and her mother seeks the help of two priests to save her.
This film got a ton of nods including; Best picture, Best director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress and the list goes on. It got 9 nominations in total and won for Best Sound and Best Screenplay. The Exorcist has the distinction of being the first horror movie to be nominated for a Best Picture Academy Award.

When I want to me moved "Schindlers List"Liam Neeson, Ben Kingsley, Ralph Fiennes. A movie that was based on true events. WElllllll this movie, always brings such tears and lessons in life.
Based on a true story, Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List stars Liam Neeson as Oskar Schindler, a German businessman in Poland who sees an opportunity to make money from the Nazis' rise to power. He starts a company to make cookware and utensils, using flattery and bribes to win military contracts, and brings in accountant and financier Itzhak Stern (Ben Kingsley) to help run the factory. By staffing his plant with Jews who've been herded into Krakow's ghetto by Nazi troops, Schindler has a dependable unpaid labor force
It won Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Film Editing, Best Cinematography...

When I am looking for my favourite LOVE STORY, I choose "TITANIC"
They won 11 oscars!

"put your hands on me, Jack" still makes me swoon.  This movie had such a profound effect on both of us, in our theatre room we have  these two poster prints laminated on our walls.

84 years later, a 101-year-old woman named Rose DeWitt Bukater tells the story to her granddaughter Lizzy Calvert, Brock Lovett, Lewis Bodine, Bobby Buell and Anatoly Mikailavich on the Keldysh about her life set in April 10th 1912, on a ship called Titanic when young Rose boards the departing ship with the upper-class passengers and her mother, Ruth DeWitt Bukater, and her fiancé, Caledon Hockley. Meanwhile, a drifter and artist named Jack Dawson and his best friend Fabrizio De Rossi win third-class tickets to the ship in a game. And she explains the whole story from departure until the death of Titanic on its first and last voyage April 15th, 1912 at 2:20 in the morning.

and the rest we shall say " is our fav love story".

We watched Titanic this afternoon, ( I still cry at the end) after I made a quiche
and started the first steps to making an apricot, orange marmalade..
now it must rest till tomorrow, where you add the sugar and process..
so far soooo good!

Are any of these your favourites…?

What made you laugh, cry, stand up for something….?

So this weekend, I will be RUFFLING….
and preparing for our 25th annual Oscar weekend!

  1. What about Bob? Yup, seen it. A funny one for sure! Watched the Exorcist as a teen...will never watch it again. No more horror stories for me! Read the book Schindler's list...a lady whose appartment I used to clean was a survivor of the holocaust (the eighth wonder of the world according to her doctors!), and she was the one who loaned me her copy. I watched an earlier b/w version of the Titanic...haven't watched the newer versions. For good laughs, I love to watch cartoons. Bugs bunny and crew never fail to make me chuckle!

  3. Marvel movies and other super hero/sci-fi movies are popular around here. I have to admit I really like them too. I'm a big Star Trek fan and have been since I was a kid. I also love comedies and tend to watch a lot of old comedy sitcoms. The only movie here I've seen is Titanic. It was hard to sit through cause it a really long drama so I've only seen it once. I don't watch scary movies, period! I'll watch science fiction movies like 'I Am Legend and 'World War Z', that's as close to scary as I'll get. :-)

  21. No scary movies for me.. I cannot sleep a wink at night if I watch those! I had to escort my older sister on her dates in the beginning and on one date her boyfriend took us to see jaws. I stayed hid under his arm the entire movie, peeking at and screaming and diving back under his armpit for safety. She has never let me live that one down. lol

We love to watch love stories!

Our favorites and we watch these every time they come on so I have stopped counting how many times we have watched them...

    Titanic
    Cold Mountain
    Pride and Prejudice
    Hope Floats
    Ghost
    You've Got Mail
    Pretty Woman

Yep.. we are suckers for a good love story..

You can have your horror... :)

  22. I so rarely watch tv, go to the movies, etc but when I do it has to be a romance or comedy. I hate anything suspense or action packed! Funny story; when hubby took me on our first date he took me to a Sylvester Stalone movie. I hated it! He had no idea! It's a wonder we ever had a second date but 19 years later it's all good!
