Day 8 of Nancy Drew Blog hop and our Sponsor is MODA!

With being away at school most of my young life, most of my time was spent waiting and reading. I flew home a lot and there were always delays.  What kept me lost in one adventure after another was my constant companion of Nancy Drew books.   My Nanny always made sure there were at least 2 volumes tied in satin bows in my travel online bag.
( the satin bows were for my hair.)   I collected quite a few,  ( ribbons and books) I don't remember the exact number, but I can tell you it would be at least 100+ plus volumes. Each one I cherished, each one a mystery on which Sister would take them for their own library. lol ( they never touched my satin ribbons- perhaps because in those days they were in full habits)

So upon seeing this Nancy Drew collection my urge surpassed any logic...We had to do a blog hop! .....I thank all those who jumped in on an adventure that I will embrace with fondness for a very long time....

As always Carol cheered us on and tried hard with her magical skills to keep us all  engaged and accountable. We had some MYSTERY Blunders.... yes we did, but they were easily manageable and repaired quickly. We work as a team of cheerleaders. Who does not want more cheerleaders in their lives? Who does not want a bit more mystery ...wink....

ahhhh yes.....here are all the lovely sleuths I shared my day with ...do hope you cheered them on as well.

Sew Far not up
Sew We Quilt ( yep that is me)

I am in a new chapter of my digital lessons!.
I am learning all about  layout designs...so I thought
I would create a newspaper template that would
be a nice addition to Sew We Quilt....
Hence "Behind the Seams" Newspaper that you see above...

If there is one question I get asked before any other...
"where do you find the time?". Time and Time again, I answer
"I make the time for the things that are important to me...."

I think having a busy life has you respecting this whole TIME thing...
I like to create in my chosen TIME....
( more about how I manage time- on the sidebar)

So here is what I created for this blog hop...
Besides the Newspaper..

My first plan which was obvious to me was--- a quilt for our theatre room. Something that would
be a light comfort when I sit with my David and watch all those mysteries that we love
to share!

Here she is....  my Nancy Drew Quilt, it is fairly large 54 inch wide by 72 inches long.
I just did not have enough time to quilt it, for I like to hand quilt....This will
be my summer project. I am thinking of stitches that will look like the chair
is quilted and perhaps magnifying glasses for the background and stitch in the ditch for all
the books along the border???

From the moment I saw this Nancy Drew Collection
I had this vision of a chair and table and volumes of books surrounding its borders..
Lucky for me, MODA had all the material that I required for this....

The chair is a very large  2 x 3 feet  allllll paper pieced..I took my time
making it as I did not want to make one error...I added a ruffle edge on the bottom
of the chair as this suited me perfectly.. I chose the red silhouette fabric, wasn't it a perfect
choice? And the magnifying glass fabric for the background....Ohhh I see a few
of you nodding..Thank you!

This quilt has everything, ruffles, paper piecing, appliqués, piecing, embroidery
over the coffee cup...every inch of this means something to me...
I even made a mini quilt complete with ruffles that is laying over the arm of the chair...
I wanted this quilt to also be 3D.... Oh yes and a wee Doll too...more on her below...

I just drew this table free hand on some wonder under by Pellon and cut out a sphere
in black, some legs and a ruffled table cloth....I added some books,
seemed downright befitting and of course that NANCY DREW cup of coffee
with embroidered steam would be balancing on my stack of books!

I have always known Nancy Drew was around way before I was....In 1929 the
first Nancy Drew book was written, but did not get published till 1930.
So I added 1930- to our present year 2013, as they are still writing Nancy Drew Books.
Also a nice way to remind myself of the year I made this quilt!

Nancy Drew is a clue  is our blog hop name appliqued on the top
...YOU could say this is my label ;)

Ohhh I just noted my Davids socked feet holding
down the quilt while I tried to capture a shot
before the sun set... this photo was taken around 6 pm
outside on our backyard deck!

Ahhh and what quilt is complete without a doll ...I have seen a few of our ladies
create dolls with their quilts. Sharon and Linda come to mind!  Both great doll makers too!

I fussed over her forever...I wanted her to look a bit dressed up and more
mature...I know it is a doll..but it will be mine. ( before I quilted, I designed dolls)
..again a lovely reminder
of this delightful hop.... Although doesn't she look bewildered? ...lol

Ohhh-- I had enough to make one of these thread catchers...just love it...folds down and then pops
up only about 5 inches to throw in your threads....Will be making more of these... Thanks to a dear friend who sent me one as a gift....figured it out pretty quick.... Another photo is in the newspaper above!

AND... this is my favourite pin cushion made by a special friend and it is loaded with special pins from another dear friend who sent me decorative pins as a lovely reminder of our love of coffee...
Even my scissors by Nova were gifted....all reminders of some pretty special ladies...

ONE MORE THING

back in the fall...

A coin purse to giveaway with one of the MODA bundles

  19. Rosemary B here:
This made me smile really big. I love your dolly. I am a doll lover from way back in my very own wee tot days. ohhh now I want to make dresses for my 4 American Girl dolls (the first ones that were made in Germany) I love the quilt very very much and the blankie with the ruffles. I love ruffles. I am gonna make my mama a quilt with ruffled edge, I already decided that would be a great idea for stimulation, use some different fabric textures in the quilt as well.
Okay, I will check back when I am at the hospital this morning. (two big meetings with daddy and some specialists about moving mama to the rehab center)
I love you Missie Samm. I am pretty sure you are everyone's best friend :-)

  79. Your quilt is fantabulous with its vintage red chair, side table, books and cup of coffee. I read ND books as a child and we passed them around, but I don't know what happened to them. I would love to win some ND fabric as none of the limited quilt shops in my area have stocked it-they look at me "like deer in head-lights," when I asked about it. Thanks again to you and Carol for another extraordinary blog hop. I have to admit that I'm addicted to them because there are so many creative people out there in Internet-land that share their inspiration with us "hoppers." I enjoy "traveling" the world from the comfort of my computer, yet am treated to inspiration and ideas that I could never begin to experience without everyone's generosity.

AND...I LUV your quilt top, the chair is great but I am crushing on that side table with the books and cup of coffee. Nicely Done! B-)

  87. I've thoroughly enjoyed this hop. You have ended with incredible projects as usual. It's all wonderful, especially David's feet. I love the mini quilt, it's a darling addition to your quilt. So well done.

  90. Hi Samm. Wow! This was a super creative blog hop and I really enjoyed visiting everyone. Your quilt, doll and mini quilt are darling, but I really like that curvy side table you made. It's very cool. BTW, I love Nancy Drew and went as her for Halloween as a kid! Love the fabric line and would love to be lucky and win a little of it (and that coinpurse made my heart pound a little faster!) Thanks for hosting these hops. They're so inspirational!

  91. Your quilt is wonderful and I do love the smaller quilt too. I have to admit that I am very partial to your doll. She is adorable and looks lovely sitting on the quilt on the chair doing some serious thinking about mysteries.

  92. Your design came together beautifully, Samm! The fabric choices were perfect and I love all the extra details that went into making your quilt extra special - like the ruffle at the bottom of your wingback chair.

Your doll is so sweet - looks like that mini quilt is meant for her to have to cuddle up to watch mysteries with you.
