Guest #63 2 Guests today for our final day of our Wantobe Quilters Campain....Yetunde 1st with a few giveaways!

Yes 2 guests today..
they are not famous, they don't own
stores, or are famous designers ( but could be someday)
, they are just  US...
Quilters who love to quilt and find joy in all they do..
SEW let's hop along and welcome them
as our very special last guests of our Wantobe Quilters Campaign...

Well hello everyone, I am Yetunde from Sistah Stitch Alot and I am so happy to be here.  Thank you, Madame Samm for inviting me here today.  I have been quilting for several years and just started making portrait quilts about a year ago.  So today I decided to have some fun and make a funny frog.
I am using a picture that I download to Photoshop Elements, then I "posterized" the picture to break the colors down into 3 shades.  I enlarged the picture to the size I wanted, and printed about 3 copies.  You can enlarge the picture at Kinko's, Staple's, Office Depot, etc., or use your own printer.  I used my own printer and taped the pieces together.
After I enlarge the picture I choose the fabric for the frog, choosing from light to dark for the body of the frog.  I fuse Heat-n-Bond Lite to the back of my fabric.  I cut some of the white background away from the picture and spray the back with temporary basting spray, this becomes my template.  I then lay this on the top (right side) of my lightest green fabric and smooth with my hand to make sure that the picture sticks to it.  You lay it on the right side because you will peel it off later.

Next I cut through the paper and fabric, and cut all the white background away, just along the outline of the frog.  Notice that I cut the feet and some of the fingers off.  I will work on them later.
After I finish cutting this I peel the paper from the fabric and lay it aside for now.
This is how the first piece looks after I cut it using the template.  This will be the base of my frog.

Now I will use that same picture (template) and lay it on top of my medium green fabric.  If I need to spray the back of the paper again I will, but most of the time I don't have to.  I am now going to cut along the edge of frog again, but this time I'll also cut away any area that is yellow.  If you look at the "posturized" picture closely you can see the breakdown of the colors: light green, medium green, dark green yellow, orange, etc.

Your piece should look like this after cutting around the edge and also cutting away the yellow areas.  Notice that the paper has not been separated from the fabric yet.  Now I will peel it away from the fabric and lay it on top of the first piece that I cut out.

This is how it should look.  You are looking at two layers of fabric: the green base fabric and the second piece I just cut out.  I do not iron anything yet, I just lay the pieces down on top of each other.  Next I will get a new printout of my frog, attach it to my dark fabric, and cut away the base and the light green area.
Once this is cut out I also lay this piece on top of the other pieces of the frog.  So right now I should have the body completed.  Now I will iron the pieces together on top of a pressing sheet and put it to the side.

For the feet, hand, and eyes, I repeat the same steps as I did before.  The yellow will be the base for the hand and feet, the orange fabric will be the top layer for the hand and feet.  The black fabric will be the base for the eyes and the gold on top.  The last picture I printed out will help me see where the pieces should go.  Once this is done I will choose a background fabric and iron the frog to the background.

The frog is complete.  The last step will be to applique it down, layer the top, batting and backing, and do some quilting to the background.

Editors NOTE:
I have had this affinity for frogs...not sure when and where
it all started..but you reminded me today why they intrigue
me...They remind me of the simplest things in life
are the ones that bring me the greatest joy...
