Guest #47 Annette with her Boho collection and giveaway of 6 yards of her line

My BOHO Collection from FreeSpirit Fabrics is an exotic collection of vibrant colors and eclectic designs to add a touch of worldly flair to any home. Bring the adventures indoors, whether you're a traveler or not, these fabrics will surely make you feel like an explorer.

Every so often I design a collection that is extra special to me in that the prints and colors offer up endless possibilities for creating. My new collection BOHO is one of those fabric groups that I am so excited about.

Not only am I busy making pillows and other exciting new products with these prints, I also took some time to collaborate with Elle Gound, on my design team, to make up some fun friends for little ones.  In the spirit of the bohemian at heart, circus elephants and bird like creations mix and match for one of a kind animal travelers.

Have fun making your own animal wonders which are sure to bring joy to those young at heart. No matter how you mix your choice of prints and colors you are sure to create a caravan of boho color.
Be the first to gain access to our new BOHO collection out this Fall by joining out newsletter at      annettetatum.com. For more ideas and inspiration, take a look at our  blog.

Step 1: Gather corresponding fabrics. Large print for the body (front and back of pillow), and a small print or a solid linen for the body parts (ears, tail, feet, etc.)

Step 2: Draw out your pattern. Any animal can be turned into a pillow with a bit of imagination and planning. Draw your animal out to size on a large piece of paper, I tried to make them about 18" to 20" long and about 8" tall. Once you have your design drawn out add 1/2" around the diameter of the design to leave room for your seam, I added this in a dashed line so I wouldn't get confused. This will be the basis of your pattern. Now take tracing paper and trace each individual piece of your animal. Once you have each section of the animal drawn out, cut out each piece.

Step 3: Take your tracing paper pieces and pin them on the fabric that you will use for each body part. Careful to think about the placement of the pattern in relationship to where the eye will be stitched. Also keep in mind you will need to cut the body shape twice for the front and back, and they need to be reverse to each other.

Step 4: The first thing to sew will be the beak of the bird. The beak can be sewn in one line to the front body part, then ironed over. You will close the beak when you sew the two sides of the pillow together.

Step 5: Now you need to stitch on your body parts, (wing for the bird and ear for the elephant). Pin your part in the correct placement and use a contrasting embroidery thread to cross-stitch around the perimeter of the piece.

Step 6: Once you have the ear and the wing attached it is time to stitch on the eye.  The eye can be
stitched on in any way, but I prefer to just stitch a sweet closed eyelid in black embroidery thread.
Draw the eyelid very lightly with a pencil and stitch over the line.

Step 7: The tail of the elephant and the feet of the bird can be added in the same way. These will be stuffed separately from the body of the pillow. Sew the two opposite sides of the parts together, leaving one side open (this side will be closed when the two sides of the animal are sewn together) and turn them inside out. Once it is inverted so the pattern side faces out, you can fill them with stuffing.

Step 8: Now you have both sides of the pillow and the tail and feet ready to be sewn together. Pin your pieces together placing the patterned sides together with the feet and tail sticking into the animal (so they will be sticking out when you turn the animal inside out) and sew along the perimeter leaving a hole at the bottom to add in the stuffing.

Step 9: Turn your animal inside out and iron him or her flat. Pull apart the stuffing so it will not clump together and add it slowly into the animal. Make sure the stuffing is distributed evenly throughout the elephant trunk! They do not have to be stuffed very full, remember they are pillows and need to be soft. Once your pillow is stuffed, carefully hand stitch the open seam and you are done.

Step 10: Cuddle!

We hope you enjoy the new BOHO collection for House by Annette Tatum.

I would love any of them, really. They'd be perfect for a quilt for my teenage daughter's room. Our favorite HAS to be PWAT070Eggplant... Eggplant is a lucious color but the word brings back so many fond memories of my childhood.. Allie's great great granny Ella always planted eggplant in her garden! She would fry it up and we would all gobble it down like pigs!

Allie is a wantobequilter and is sponsored by SewCalGal!
