What a JOY to read your post! To sit in COMFORT for even an hour with nothing on my mind but reading ... fun, fun! I'd really enJOY the book COMFORT and JOY :) Thank you sew much for this chance!!

Stash Manicure is like a Candy shop, but sweeter!

Hello there, I'm Michelle from L7 Quilt Co..  MSamm asked me to be a guest blogger and I feel like a kid in a candy store!!! LOL!

My post is about 'YOU' & 'TIME', as in 'making time for you'.  I know, that you know - you have to make time for yourself.  But sometimes you have to hear (read) someone say it to be reminded of it.  In the hustle & bustle of this joyous, most wonderful time of the year...we are busy with work, family, volunteering, Christmas shopping, wrapping (and the list goes on)...it's easy to forget about YOU.  Christmas is 2 (2 1/2) weeks away (no pressure...lol!), so if you need time, here are a few suggestions/reminders...
  1. If possible, take a work day off.  It's Christmas!  Give yourself a 'vacation' day.  If you can do it - DO IT!  Think of all the things you can cross of your list - or not.  And if you have kids in school or day care...you know you'll have 'X' amount of hours to yourself.

  1. Can't take the whole day off?  How about 1/2 a day?  And if you have kids in day care, don't feel guilty about not picking them up early.  Heck, you pay them every week...a few hours to shop or do what you want/need is worth every penny.

  1. You only have the weekends?  Well, ask for some time...for example, see if your family/husband/kids will agree to not call on you for a set amount of time.  2 hours, 4 hours or the whole day...surely your family/friends will survive your absence...lol!

***If you are taking a 'ME' day, agree with everyone you are not be called on unless there is a real emergency.  If they can't find this or that - that does not count as an emergency.  They will have to improvise or just wait until you return.  If possible...NO CELL PHONES!

You know that saying...'If momma ain't happy, nobody's happy'...IT'S TRUE!  Whether it's 2 hours or the whole day, doing something for you to bring you inner peace is important.  When you are happy/calm/relaxed, it radiates everyone around you.

It's the most wonderful time of the year...enjoy every moment!

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
Michelle

#1 choice

If you want to create your own unique one of a kind Santa Village, your search is over. Becky Goldsmith and Linda Jenkins have put together angled, sloped and unconventional houses to create your own unique village. Choose from the many patterns they have included for a one of a kind Santa’s village. "The Ice Cream Shoppe" will be a favorite, complete with cherry on top. Note the "North Pole", the "Carryout building", "Mr. and Mrs. Clause house", "An Elves bunkhouse", and a "Hat and Mitten Factory" and more. The designs are endless and this is one pattern book that will have you believing in Santa Claus all over again.

#2 choice

  • Love Christmas quilts? Mary Hickey is a master quilter, she exudes comfort and joy in every design. Take her "Christmas Weather Vane" goodness me, as a Christmas table topper this one is a must, reds, greens and whites it comes to life with star magic. Her "Peppermint Patties" is a pinwheel design, just the right sweetness as another table topper choice. Looking for a wreath design, she has it and it is called appropriately "Ribbon Wreath", this is a Christmas heirloom without a doubt. "Midnight Star" is a beautiful reminder of the season; this one can be a wall hanging or a small table topper. Whatever project you choose Mary reminds you of this wonderful holiday season that equals pure JOY.

    1. Good Morning Michelle...and you are sew right....we do need to slow down the pace for just one day or even a few hours...Sometimes a gentle reminder- a little nudge brings us all back on track. Thank you for slipping in with what I know is such a busy time for all of us and giving us a few moments to ponder...I BELIEVE! lol

    2. Wise words, Michelle and beautifully put!

    3. I'm retiring in 2 weeks, my first goal is just to stop walking so fast all the time. Being a nurse, it is just the pace we use at work. I need to slow down in all aspects of my life.

    4. I was just thinking about this myself, how timely. (Now I won't feel so guilty, the blog made me do it! LOL) Thanks for the suggestions! Love the look of the "Comfort and Joy" quilt book.

      ReplyDelete
    23. I totally agree! When I was working, I used to take two days off a year for myself and I called them, mental health days. I'd do whatever I wanted and never felt guilty. ('Course, I never told HR what they were...seems I had lots of bachkaches in those days.) LOL

      ReplyDelete
    24. Well Michelle, you are full of surprises!!! Love this post!

      ReplyDelete

    33. I started following this blog when a norwegian guestwriter wrote. I think it was in november. It'a very inspirational to read all these different authors thoughts.

      ReplyDelete
    35. Oh the Comfort and Joy! Doesn't that say it all. To have Joy we need Comfort. I enjoyed your post and we all need to take time to regroup. I have followed L7 Quilt Co. for some time. Drop by.

    37. Sometimes you have to take time to "fill the cup" and baby yourself.....so there can be more to give to others...

      ReplyDelete
    38. Great post! And I totally agree - one year for my birthday, all I asked for was one day to do whatever I wanted to do, by myself!! Sounds selfish, but it was so needed!! We forget to make any time for ourselves in the midst of our lives.....

      ReplyDelete
    39. I am very much looking forward to my time off coming up in a couple of weeks.

I would go for the Christmas Quilts book.

      ReplyDelete
    40. So true, so true!! It's nice to be able to take time for yourself. I've been indulging in long, hot baths with a good book :)

      ReplyDelete
    45. Welcome To The North Pole looks like it has some fun and different ideas for a quilt! If I should win (fingers crossed) that book would be my selection.

      ReplyDelete
    46. Oh goodness.. time to myself.. I usually hide in the bathtub for time to myself.. Long hot bath (and read quilt magazines shhh). But no one bothers me in there. I love your idea though, a whole day to myself to quilt quietly. I would have to plan it all out in advance though to maximize production.. oooh I'm planning already.. (my lil hands are rubbing together in anticipation). Thanks for a great idea!

      ReplyDelete
    47. Thanks for the reminder, Michelle. I just happen to be taking off work tomorrow for a little 'me' time! Both books look wonderful, but Comfort & Joy would be my choice if I were to win. Love those peppermint pinwheels!

      ReplyDelete
    50. I've been hearing it more and more in blogland about wanting more time and if time were for sale I think it would be a sell out about now. My guess is the best use of finding time and I hate to say it...turn off the computer at least one time and use that for instant gratification sewing. We all will be here upon your return right? This time of year it really is easy to feel overwhelmed.....I say breath and remember what the season is truly about.
I'm delighted for the giveaway....Comfort and Joy would be my pick if I won...I'd make the time to sit and enjoy it with a cuppa!

      ReplyDelete

Yes we must be kinder to ourselves and be realistic with our expectations - sometimes near enough is good enough for house work etc, and get on with doing something that nourishes our souls, and makes us feel alive. Although I have been reading this blog daily for ages I only joined as a follower in the last week! I am looking forward to my visit from the North Pole! Fiona
